The Fauves at Recoletos

Exhibitions, conferences, guided tours and, in particular, the opening of some of the city’s most interesting buildings are activities that form part of Architecture Week, Open House and MOM, three initiatives that throughout October give people the opportunity to discover part of Madrid’s secret heritage.

Juan Abelló and his wife Ana Gamazo paint an exceptionally revealing picture of themselves through the works that comprise this collection, which can be viewed at CentroCentro Cibeles until 1 March.

The Prado Museum joins in to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of El Greco with a large exhibition that points to a connection between the artist’s work and the avant-garde.

Once again this June PHotoEspaña returns to Madrid with so many fascinating exhibitions it’s hard not to fall prey to Stendhal’s syndrome. Dates: 5 June to 28 July. Place: all over the city. Here’s a list of 10 shows I’ll be sure not to miss.

From 27 April to 2 September, the Reina Sofía Museum is holding a fantastic exhibition on Salvador Dalí. That is why I’ve been asked to write a post on the adventures of this eccentric and concentric genius, as he would often describe himself, in Madrid, where he lived from 1922 to 1926.
