Dates: 5 June to 28 July. Place: all over the city. Here&#8217;s a list of 10 shows I&#8217;ll be sure not to miss.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Avant-garde classics:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Fine Arts Circle is hosting two exhibitions that best highlight the theme of this year&#8217;s edition of the festival:\u00a0<strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>Body. Eros and Politics\u201d<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/en\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E36541&amp;codigoLocal=512&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Woman. The feminist avant-garde<\/em>\u00a0<em>of the 1970s<\/em><\/a>, features works by Ana Mendieta, Sanja Ivekovic, Helena Almeida, Esther Ferrer, Birgit J\u00fcrgenssen, Cindy Sherman, Francesca Woodman and others, and examines the oeuvre of a generation of women who have used conceptual art to explore the political dimension of their bodies. Meanwhile,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/en\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E36623&amp;codigoLocal=512&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>He, She, It. Dialogues between<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Harry Callahan and<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Edward Weston<\/em><\/a>\u00a0takes a new look at the female anatomy through the eyes of two of the most representative figures in the world of pure photography, free from erotic stereotypes. And for a clue to the source of this formal clarity of the American masters, this edition of PhotoEspa\u00f1a also includes a retrospective exhibition on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/en\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E37001&amp;codigoLocal=1616&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Modernist Nudes<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>of Franti\u0161ek Drtikol, on display at the National Engraving Centre, which reveals the influence of the historic avant-garde movements of Cubism and Futurism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Portraits of time:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These small shows could easily go unnoticed, and yet they are undoubtedly the most poignant of the whole festival. They feature photographs conceived as fossils of another era, which illustrate the passing of time with uncanny precision. The L\u00e1zaro Galdiano Museum hosts the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/en\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E36999&amp;codigoLocal=1260&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Taxonomy of Chaos,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0with portraits and landscapes from the Rafael Doctor Roncero collection by Nadar, Disderi, Clifford, Pipilotti Rist, Cristina Garc\u00eda Rodero and David Hilliard, and charts the different ways in which photographers have viewed the body through the ages. Doctor Roncero himself will be on hand for the duration of the exhibition to personally attend to visitors. Meanwhile at the Raquel Ponce Gallery, Ignacio Navas revives the memory of his aunt through a series of photos from the family album. In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phe.es\/es\/phe\/exposiciones\/3\/festival_off\/186\/yolanda\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.phe.es']);\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Yolanda<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>this young artist tells a harrowing but true story that reflects the values and ideals of the 1980s and 90s.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1672\" style=\"width: 633px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.esmadrid.com\/blog\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mark-show--623x356.jpg\" ><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1672\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1672\" title=\"Mark Show. 623x356\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.esmadrid.com\/blog\/es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mark-show--623x356.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"623\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1672\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mark Shaw. <em>Caroline Kennedy, John F. Kennedy y Jacqueline Kennedy en Hyannis Port<\/em>, 1959. \u00a9 Mark Shaw \/ mptvimages.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The intimacy of the famous<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The photographs by Mark Shaw at Loewe&#8217;s on Calle Serrano, and by Lawrence Schiller at the Mondo Gallery focus on very specific moments in the lives of the Kennedy family and Marilyn Monroe respectively. The two artists had access to both the public personas and private lives of these American icons.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/es\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E37033&amp;codigoLocal=712&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>The Kennedys<\/em><\/a>\u00a0contains unpublished photos of the family, while\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phe.es\/es\/phe\/exposiciones\/3\/festival_off\/181\/marilyn_and_me_and_more_america_y_los_60#039;\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.phe.es']);\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Marilyn and Me and More. America and the 1960s<\/em><\/a>\u00a0features nude images of the actress that have never previously been seen in Spain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The more radical shows<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For audiences looking for more radical fare, the exhibition\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/en\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E37272&amp;codigoLocal=821&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Pierre Molinier. Tempus fugit<\/em><\/a>\u00a0at the Guillermo de Osma Gallery contains several self-portraits of the artist as a transvestite, and explores the idea of self-eroticism. This same theme also underpins\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esmadrid.com\/en\/cargarBuscadorAgenda.do?codigoEvento=E37187&amp;codigoLocal=1134&amp;tipo=1\"  target=\"_blank\"><em>Flower Paradise<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em>\u00a0the exhibition of still lifes by Nobuyoshi Araki that opens the newly refurbished La F\u00e1brica Gallery, now with a restaurant and more books. Finally, the exhibition <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionfiart.org\/2013\/05\/10\/david-trullo-presenta-en-la-fundacion-fiart-la-exposicion-fauxtographies\/\" onclick=\"javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http:\/\/www.fundacionfiart.org']);\"><em>Fauxtographies<\/em><\/a>, not part of PhotoEspa\u00f1a but held concurrently with the festival, takes a look at one of the fundamental issues in photography since the digital revolution.
