Che Strano Chiamarsi Federico<\/p><\/div>\n

A couple of charming little American grannies<\/strong> rebel against the loss in value of their savings and the quality of the health services they receive; some disillusioned characters, survivors of several wars, live like losers pirates<\/strong> on the shores of the Black Sea; a cold-blooded murderer<\/strong>, one of those most responsible for genocide during World War II, shows his other tender and humane side when dealing with his family; a colourful group of people from very different backgrounds, seek refuge in a small village in the French Pyrenees, hoping to escape the end of the world; a man robs a bank to get the money<\/strong> his partner needs for a sex-change operation, the son of one of the founders of Hamas, a prisoner in an Israeli jail, agrees to spy for the Israeli secret services… Even though they could all well be plots for films based on fiction, they all, in fact, correspond to real people in real situations<\/strong> and are the subjects of the some of the films included in the DocumentaMadrid<\/a> <\/strong>programme.<\/p>\n

Two Raging Grannies<\/p><\/div>\n

DocumentaMadrid, the international festival dedicated exclusively to documentaries<\/strong>, promoted by the Madrid City Council, opens its doors at Cinematheque<\/strong><\/a> (Matadero Madrid<\/strong><\/a>) to offer the season’s best productions in this genre (30 April-11 May).<\/p>\n

My Name is Salt<\/p><\/div>\n

This year, the festival enters its eleventh year<\/strong> confirming the 2013 shift of focus towards a much sounder yardstick of quality in film selection, with an official selection that gives priority to new releases<\/strong> in Spain. A shift designed\u00a0to consolidate DocumentaMadrid as the most important of the festivals held in Madrid, placing it in the international ranking of festivals dedicated to this genre.<\/p>\n

The Last Black Sea Pirates<\/p><\/div>\n

The commitment remains\u00a0to promoting and disseminating non-fiction films<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0which reflect the reality of society, culture, economy, art, environment and technology in the world. It also provides a way of seeing an accurate depiction of the turbulent times we’re living in, from different points of view. Current topics, such as the situation in Tahrir Square in El Cairo, the struggle against Bashar al-Assad in the city of Homs or the birth of the Femen movement in Ukraine, intermingle with more intimate subjects such as poverty<\/strong>, the financial system<\/strong> seen from the inside or religious tolerance<\/strong> in Iran.\u00a0All that without forgetting\u00a0the documentaries produced here in our country<\/strong>. A succulent crop with a host of variations, both in their formal proposals and in the variety of their subject matter.<\/p>\n

The Decent One<\/p><\/div>\n

The selection of the works presented, based exclusively on the criterion of quality and\u00a0offering\u00a0an accurate and condensed overview of the present and the reality which surrounds us,\u00a0<\/strong>in this way becomes a basic complement to the CINEMATHEQUE programme, the only cinema in the country dedicated exclusively to screening real-life films<\/strong>, making it an\u00a0annual meeting point for professionals, creators and the public\u00a0for whom their films are created.<\/p>\n
